Founded in 2002, the Indian-American Society of Interventional Cardiology (ISIC) is comprised of Interventional Cardiologists of Indian origin practicing in the United States. ISIC is committed to providing educational, research and training opportunities for its members and for the Indian community. The burgeoning organization aims to amalgamate the individual skills and talents of its members who are high-volume interventional cardiologists (mean operator volume 205 PCI/year) and who are conducting pioneering research and producing top tier publications. It is estimated that there are about 1,200 - 1,500 potential ISIC members who are responsible for performing between 9-13% of all coronary interventions that are performed in the United States. ISIC has several unique programs such as "Stents for the Underprivileged", "Bidirectional Fellowships" and "PVD Training Programs." The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) is a national organization of physicians, scientists, and allied health professionals dedicated to improving public health through disease management and minimally invasive, image-guided therapeutic interventions. SIR’s signature event is it’s week-long Annual Scientific Meeting that draws 6,200 attendees from private practice, academia, research, and industry. The meeting offers half-day symposia on key new areas of patient care, as well as plenary sessions, categorical courses and hand-on workshops. The meeting provides continuing education and access to breaking research for all members of the interventional radiology team – physicians, nurse practitioners, techs, physician assistants and nurses. Additionally, SIR holds smaller, single-topic meetings throughout the year to inform and train members and non-members alike on emerging treatments and new research. To compliment the work of SIR and build on the specialty’s legacy of innovation, the SIR Foundation was formed. The Foundation supports programs that promote the development of clinical and basic research as well as educational activities for the purpose of developing skilled investigators and exploring emerging research areas. Foundation-sponsored research trials, symposia, workshops, and focused meetings provide the opportunity to develop new methods of approaching research from clinical practice, as well as the opportunity to develop academic research programs.
