MEETINGS of NOTE
American College of Cardiology
March 11-14, 2006
Atlanta, Georgia
The theme for the 55th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology, ACC.06, is “Celebrating the Cardiovascular Community.” This year’s event will feature community rooms where physicians can network on topics in the therapeutic areas of heart failure, electrophysiology, imaging, prevention, and interventional cardiology.
ACC.06’s new content includes Spotlight Sessions targeted to clinical needs; these program areas include integrated imaging, which merges the echo, CT/MRI and nuclear spotlight sessions of the past into one session; electrophysiology; vascular hypertension and prevention; and clinical cardiology (Clin- Card), which offers the year in review along with case presentations.
The objectives of the Scientific Sessions are to facilitate knowledge acquisition on global issues; to offer education that integrates the best practices of cardiovascular specialists and related health care professionals; to provide a forum for scientists and investigators to exchange new research; to emphasize the translation of evidence-based cardiovascular science and clinical trial data into daily clinical practice; to offer needsbased educational programming; to provide the latest information on pharmaceuticals, medical devices and literature; to disseminate information on issues in practice management, quality of care, ethical practices and other non-clinical topics; and to foster relationships between professionals of similar interests.
ACC.06 will feature a variety of program formats, including Meet the Experts Sessions, Brown Bag and Lunch Panels and Abstract Presentations.
A new event, Innovation in Intervention: i2 Summit 2006, will be held concurrently with ACC.06. The i2 Summit will be co-sponsored by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and will feature live satellite transmissions, interactive computer-based learning and simulation training for the interventionalist. Session topics include late-breaking clinical trials, practical percutaneous intervention techniques and reimbursement and coding issues. The program aims to deliver a broad, deep and inclusive program through close collaboration with SCAI and interventional meetings such as VIVA and CRT and to demonstrate the ACC’s long-term vision and commitment to the interventional community.
