How to Apply
When applying for any membership category in ACC or advancement to a higher category, please follow the procedures below.
  1. Download a copy of the application.
  2. Complete all sections of the application thoroughly in order to avoid delay. ATTACH documentation as required (i.e. letters verifying postgraduate training and academic/hospital appointments made outside the United States; photocopy of medical diploma if degree earned outside the United States).
  3. Request letters of sponsorship from Fellows of the College who have reviewed the application and signed the Sponsor's Endorsement section. Sponsoring Fellows must be well acquainted with the current professional activities of the applicant. Relatives of the applicant are NOT eligible to act as sponsors. Only one of the sponsors from the applicant's geographic area of professional activity may be a partner or business associate from the applicant's practice; and an applicant may have only one sponsor from his or her training program. Applicants from North America are required to obtain two letters of sponsorship. The College Governor of the state or area where the candidate performs professional activities is ineligible to act as one of the sponsors. Applicants from areas outside North America are required to obtain two letters of sponsorship:
    • Two letter of sponsorship from Fellows (FACCs) of the College who reside in the applicant's geographic area of professional activity
      OR
    • One letter from a Fellow (FACC) of the College who resides in the applicant's geographic area of professional activity and one letter from the Society President from the applicant's country (even if he or she is NOT a Fellow or member of the College).
      OR
    • One from a Fellow (FACC) of the College who resides in the applicant's geographic area of professional activity and one from a Fellow of the College who resides in the United States.
  4. Submit the completed application packet consisting of:
    • signed application form and attachments
    • letters of sponsorship
    • payment of annual dues (see under Annual Dues Schedule) and non-refundable processing fee must accompany application to the Member Relations Department at College Headquarters, 9111 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814-1699 USA.
The Election Process
  1. The deadline for receipt of applications for Fellow, Associate Fellow and Member at College Headquarters is May 1 and October 1. A "Candidates in Progress List" of all applications received at College Headquarters prior to the deadline is circulated to the Fellows of the College prior to the Credentialing and Membership Committee (CMC) review. If a Fellow has personal knowledge of any candidate that is relevant to the review process, they are asked to assist in the selection process by providing an evaluation of such candidates. This information will be maintained on a confidential basis.
  2. Candidates elected to Fellowship are invited to participate in the Annual Convocation of the College, which is held in conjunction with the Annual Scientific Session, usually in March. Certificates of fellowship are distributed after convocation.
