services and content will be available on the new Cardiosource?
All of the services and content that ACC currently provides on Cardiosource
will be retained in the new release. This includes, for example:
- Over 500 hours of CME in cardiovascular medicine,
with over 100 hours available in short, 15-minute increments via
Cardiosource’s popular “CME On-the-Fly.” Cardiosource
also provides more than 10 online Self-Assessment Products, ranging
from the broad-based, award winning ACCSAP curriculum
in Adult Clinical Cardiology, to specific education on such topics
as CMR and Echocardiography interpretation. (The Self-Assessment
Products are available for purchase separately.)
- Full-text searchability and online access to
the Journal of the American College of Cardiology
- Clinical case studies
- The Epocrates Rx Online drug database and clinical
support tools
- Expert opinions on hot topics and controversial
issues
- Cardiosource Journal Scan, which provides summaries
of the most important articles from the key journals relevant
to cardiovascular medicine
- A vast clinical trials database, including a
version available for PDA download (with automatic updating during
“hot-sync”)
- ACC Guidelines and Clinical Statements
- ACC’s library of high-resolution clinical
images, available for download for presentation or teaching purposes
- A collection of clinical practice tools, including
calculators, decision algorithms, and guidelines downloadable
to the PDA
- Next-day coverage of key cardiovascular meetings

improvement to enhance practice quality
- The ability to search all of ACC’s content
from a single, powerful search tool, providing a consolidated
search across case studies, high-resolution images, guidelines,
practice tools, expert opinions, JACC articles, and more.
What
is changing about Cardiosource?
The new Cardiosource differs from the former Cardiosource in the
following ways:
- All of the information on the new Cardiosource,
with the exception of ACC Self-Assessment Products, will be provided
to all ACC members FREE
as a benefit of membership. Thus, ACC members will be able to
enjoy full, free access to premium Cardiosource content and services,
at no charge. Non-members will pay a nominal annual subscription
fee.
- Our Journal of the American College of Cardiology
will have a whole new online look and improved functionality,
including links from articles referenced in JACC to the full text
of articles from over 800 other journals.
- Cardiosource will include Epocrates Rx Online,
a web-based drug reference including more than 3,300 brand and
generic drugs, as well as hundreds of medical equations, dose
converters, clinical criteria and decision trees, all provided
to ACC members and Cardiosource subscribers at no additional cost.
Epocrates Rx Online also includes patient handouts.
- The site will have an improved, easy-to-use
navigation scheme and simple registration process.
- Cardiosource will incorporate the ACC’s
Heart Health News, a daily review of the news most pertinent
to cardiovascular medicine, to keep you abreast of the latest
news, and anticipate what your patients may ask based on what
they are reading.
- The new Cardiosource will not initially contain
the online textbooks previously on the site, nor will it initially
provide the ability to search across non-ACC journals. However,
it will provide reviews of articles from key journal publications,
as well as links to other journals and articles as part of Cardiosource’s
Journal Scan feature.
When
will the new Cardiosource launch?
The new Cardiosource is scheduled to be launched in June 2005.
What
is the status of the College’s relationship with Elsevier?
While the ACC is no longer collaborating with Elsevier on the Cardiosource
site, we continue to work closely with Elsevier in traditional print
journal publications. We are proud of our longstanding, successful
and continuing relationship with Elsevier, and they will continue
to be our print publisher of the Journal of the American College
of Cardiology and Current Journal Review.
I
purchased SAPs on the old Cardiosource. Will they still be available
to me in the new Cardiosource?
Yes. All Self-Assessment Programs will still
be available on the new Cardiosource, and you will be able to access
all products online that you have purchased previously.
I made progress
online through one or more SAPs that I purchased previously on Cardiosource.
Will this information be retained in the new Cardiosource?
Yes. All progress in the SAPs, as well as all CME information, will
be retained and available for your review when you log into the
new site.
I
earned some CME on the previous Cardiosource site by reading through
case studies or expert opinions. Will the information be retained
in the new Cardiosource?
Yes. All CME information will be retained and available for your
review when you log into the new site.
What
web browsers and operating platforms are supported by the new Cardiosource?

I need a broadband (cable, DSL, T1, etc.) connection to access Cardiosource?

I

I am not an ACC
member. How can I access Cardiosource content?
If you are not a member of the ACC, you may still access the Cardiosource
site by either registering for free, or purchasing a subscription.
The free registration does not provide access to most key content
areas of the site, but does enable you to receive the Cardiosource
newsletters, and access ACC products that you may purchase online
through Cardiosource.
I
am not an ACC member. If I subscribe to Cardiosource, will ACC automatically
charge my card when it is time to renew?
At this time, ACC does not maintain your personal credit card information
on file. Thus, when it is time to renew your Cardiosource subscription,
ACC will contact you by e-mail and provide you with a link to renew
your subscription online.
I
am not an ACC member, but I currently subscribe to Cardiosource.
What will happen to my Cardiosource subscription in June?
As a current subscriber to Cardiosource, your subscription will
extend to the new Cardiosource as well. You will be able to use

limited amount of sample content, as well as allow you to receive
the Cardiosource e-newsletters. As always, access to ACC Guidelines
will remain free to all individuals.
I
am not an ACC member, and do not wish to subscribe to Cardiosource
at this time. What is the benefit of free registration on Cardiosource?
If you are not a member of the ACC and do not wish to purchase a
subscription, you may still register on Cardiosource for free. Free

Journal
of the American College of Cardiology
What is changing
about online access to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology
(JACC)?
With the new release of Cardiosource, JACC online is moving to a
new and improved online publishing platform. This will include a
whole new online look and improved functionality, including links
from articles referenced in JACC to the full text of articles from
over 800 other journals. Other features will also be available,
such as downloadable images into PowerPoint, advanced search functionality,
and much more.
Can
I still access JACC through www.onlinejacc.org?
Yes, if you bookmark this URL, you will still be able to access
JACC from www.onlinejacc.org, which will continue to be the JACC
online home page on Cardiosource.
How
do I login to access JACC online in the new Cardiosource?
Cardiosource will continue to be the portal through which you access
JACC online. If you are an ACC member or JACC subscriber, then simply
log into Cardiosource, click on JACC Online and enter your user
name and password. For subsequent visits to the site, a single sign-on
from Cardiosource will provide you with full access to JACC online.
The
first time I access JACC online in the new Cardiosource, I am asked
to select a username and password. Why?
In the new JACC online publishing platform, hosted by HighWire Press
from Stanford University, you will need to establish an account
so that all of your HighWire journal subscriptions can be managed
effectively, and so that you can use the customized features available
on the new platform. Thus, the first time you access JACC online
from Cardiosource, you will be asked to select a username and password
for the HighWire Press site. However, in subsequent visits, as long
as you log into the Cardiosource site first, you will not need to
separately login to the JACC online site.
Can
I select the same username and password combination for JACC online
as the username/password I use on Cardiosource?
Yes, you may use the same username and password combination for
both sites, if you prefer. Remember, though, that as long as you
log into Cardiosource first, you will not need to login to the JACC
online site in order to access full text content.
I
hold a paid subscription to JACC, but I don’t subscribe to
Cardiosource. I am not a member of the ACC. How should I access
JACC online?
Cardiosource will continue to be the portal through which you access
JACC online. However, you do not need to purchase a subscription
to Cardiosource in order to access JACC online (although we hope
you will!). If you are a JACC subscriber then simply go to www.onlinejacc.org,
register for Cardiosource, at no charge, and you will be able to
access full text content from JACC online. Except for the first
time you go to JACC online content, a single sign-on from Cardiosource
will provide you with full access to JACC online.
