PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
This
symposium is designed as a collaborative educational forum for cardiologists
serving in all branches of the armed services, U.S. Public Health
Service and Veterans’ Affairs. A combination of lectures,
small group break-outs and case discussions provide opportunities
to network with your colleagues as well as experts in the field,
to advance your understanding of issues unique to cardiovascular
care in the military sector. Topics such as emergent patient care
under combat conditions, classifying patients appropriately with
regard to duty status, military family care and government resources
and limitations will be presented.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to —
- Define the role of the CV specialist in the military setting
- Compare and contrast emerging treatments for atrial fibrillation,
heart failure and stroke
- Develop effective strategies to optimize practice under sub-optimal
combat conditions
- Recognize emerging cardiac imaging and other technological modalities
available to military practitioners, including Cardiac CT, Cath
and Echo, and the use of the Internet in managing CVD
