PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Arrhythmias in the Real World 2007 is an intense two-and-one-half day symposium providing an educational experience for all healthcare providers who specialize in cardiac rhythm management. Focusing on state-of-the-art evaluation and management of patients with cardiac arrhythmias and patients with disorders that place them at high risk for cardiac arrhythmias, this symposium will include:
- Case-based presentations with audience participation
- Panel discussions from experts and experienced clinicians
- Optional early-bird and evening sessions
- Updates on latest research
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to -
- Discuss appropriate management of the patient with atrial fibrillation including rate control vs. rhythm control, anticoagulation and ablation therapy
- Discuss current research in the etiologies, mechanisms and classification of cardiomyopathies (ischemic, nonischemic dilated, hypertropic and genetic)
- Describe the guideline-based evaluation, risk assessment and management of the patient with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
- Describe the indications and contraindications for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs)
- Compare and contrast current research on the efficacy and adverse consequences of ICD therapy
- Discuss the management of common and challenging scenarios in
the patient with an ICD, such as multiple shock therapies and
device recalls
- Discuss recent research in congestive heart failure with particular emphasis on risk of arrhythmias and sudden death
- Recognize the indications, benefits and adverse consequences of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) as well as strategies for the management of challenging patients, such as the CRT nonresponder
- Discuss the recent research and its application to the patient with genetic etiologies of arrhythmia syndromes
- Describe the evaluation, risk assessment and management of these patients; including counseling of the patient/family
- Explain current approaches for the pre-participation evaluation and risk assessment of the patient with an arrhythmia substrate wishing to participate in competitive and noncompetitive sports
- Explain the recent research and its application to the evaluation and management of the patient with syncope
