PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
Statement of Need
The need for highly trained cardiovascular clinicians is
greater than ever as the number of patients with cardiovascular
disease continues to rise at a rapid rate. Given the critical role
of cardiology care team practitioners, educational programs that
offer clinical competencies in pathophysiology and the diagnosis
and treatment of cardiovascular disease are urgently needed. Foundations
for Practice Excellence: Core Curriculum for the Cardiovascular
Clinician helps meet this need by providing cardiac care team members
with the knowledge and skills needed to continue to provide high-quality
care to their cardiovascular patients.
Overview
Through case studies of evidence-based practice guidelines, this
comprehensive and interactive program will address key topics in
cardiology. This program will include numerous hands-on activities
such as 12-lead ECG interpretation, heart sound recognition and
chest x-ray interpretation. Plus take advantage of opportunities
to network with your colleagues and expert faculty.
Learner Objectives
The overall goal of this program is to enhance competency and performance
among clinicians who treat patients with cardiovascular disease.
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to –
- Translate evidence-based medicine and clinical trial data into
the evaluation and management of the patient with acute and chronic
cardiovascular disease (CVD)
- Explain the importance of active differential diagnosis and
pathophysiologic analysis while obtaining medical history
- Analyze and critique the importance of clinical examination
skills to meet the needs of CVD patients
- Summarize strategies for the management of the patients with
an implantable device
- Improve clinical decision-making skills related to the management
of patients with congenital heart disease
- Identify and compare current approaches for the patient at
risk for coronary artery disease
- Determine the optimal treatment and management options for patients
experiencing arrhythmias, based on current ACC/AHA guidelines
- Demonstrate proficiency in interpretation of 12-lead ECGs,
chest x-rays and heart sound assessment
