PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
Statement of Need
The evolving requirements for Board Certification and Maintenance
of Certification are spurred by physician leaders who agree that
there exists a need to ensure and demonstrate to the public that
medical professionals remain highly skilled and knowledgeable throughout
their careers. To aid physicians' certification and recertification
needs, the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) will
host a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Learning Session that
will feature the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) 2008
and 2009 Update Knowledge Modules in Cardiovascular Diseases.
Overview
Learn in an interactive environment as ABIM-certified physicians
experts lead you through the 50 case-based questions that comprise
ABIM’s Cardiovascular Disease Updates 2008 and 2009 medical
knowledge modules. This study session offers an opportunity to weigh
the evidence on a case-by-case basis as you discuss the options
with expert faculty and your fellow participants to identify the
most appropriate answers to the ABIM questions.
A highlight of this program is the opportunity to compare your
answers to those of the experts and your peers, anonymously, using
an audience response system. And at the end of the program, simply
submit your answers for both the 2008 and 2009 Updates directly
to the ABIM and earn a combined 20 knowledge-based points toward
Maintenance of Certification. Please refer to the ABIM
Information section for additional information on how to submit
your answers.
To participate in this session you must enroll in ABIM’s
Maintenance of Certification Program. ABIM Diplomates may enroll
in Maintenance of Certification (ABIM’s recertification program)
by visiting the website www.abim.org
(Physician Login).
All questions regarding recertification eligibility should be referred
to the ABIM.
Before registering for this ACCF Study Session, please check your
ABIM profile in the "Physician Login" at www.abim.org/online
to confirm that Cardiovascular Disease Updates 2008 and 2009 are
not modules that you have previously completed. The ACCF does not
keep personal records of modules completed through ABIM. Participants
who register for the ACCF Study Session are responsible for confirming
their ABIM credits and will not receive a refund from the ACCF for
a study session on a module you have completed previously through
the ABIM if cancellation occurs less than 24 hours before the start
of the program. Please refer to the Cancellations
Section for additional information.
Learner Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to
-
- Satisfy the ABIM’s Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge
requirement for Maintenance of Certification, by earning a total
of 20 MOC points
- Identify new diagnostic testing options
- Describe new therapeutic options
- Discuss new clinical decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment
of patient problems
- Compare and contrast differences in diagnostic and treatment
