CHD & PC Section Meeting at ACC.06

Dear Colleagues in Congenital Heart Disease and Pediatric Cardiology:

In March 2004, the ACC Board of Trustees invited the Congenital Heart Disease and Pediatric Cardiology Committee and the Women in Cardiology Committee to participate in a two-year pilot program to model the establishment of member Sections for the organization.

It is intended that a member Section will provide a framework for us to work together to achieve objectives of high interest to our community but which may not be a priority for the ACC membership as a whole. The collection of modest dues will fund small projects of our choosing. During the pilot period, the Section will be governed by the CHD/PC Committee whose members are appointed by the ACC president.

After careful consideration, and consultation with other organizations and senior leaders, the Committee launched our section in January 2005 with letters of invitation sent to all ACC members with an interest in congenital heart disease. We are pleased that the response has been highly enthusiastic with over 500 members enrolled by the end of March. Our first meeting, attended by 150 Section members, was held on Sunday, March 6, in Orlando, Florida, where potential objectives were presented for consideration and feedback submitted by Section members. Based on the preliminary objective rankings, working groups are being formed. As these groups develop plans for moving forward, we will update this page with this information.

If you have not already done so, we hope you will join the Section by completing the membership form and mailing it, along with $35 in annual dues ($25 fellows and cardiac care associate members) to the ACC. All Section members are urged to participate in the Section by providing your feedback at Section meetings, or by sending your suggestions to CHDPCSection@acc.org. You are also invited to volunteer for Section workgroups.

We are both grateful to the Leadership of the ACC and thrilled that we have been given this opportunity to strengthen and empower the voice of the Congenital Heart Disease community and to develop a Section of Congenital Heart Disease and Pediatric Cardiology.

Please work with us to make sure our Section has major input on CHD issues and to make it an ongoing dynamic entity in cardiology.

Sincerely,

Congenital Heart Disease and Pediatric Cardiology Committee

We will update this information as your responses are received.
