ACC Cardiology Careers — The Place to Go for Jobs

FIT Community Lounge a Huge Success in Atlanta

The new FIT Community Lounge at ACC.06 in Atlanta proved to be a huge success. Fellows were able to gather, network and learn in a comfortable room set up just for them. Amish Sura, M.D., and Abhi Goyal, M.D., who were co-chairs of the FIT Committee’s Annual Meeting Initiatives Work Group, planned and executed successful mentoring roundtable discussions and other programs.

"The FIT community room was a great success.  Fellows found the room a great place to network with other fellows and with cardiologists who practice in both academic and community settings.  They also found the roundtable discussions about career considerations to be very helpful.  The FIT community room was a great place to recharge with refreshments, watch ongoing ACC sessions live on screen, and use computers with internet and printing capabilities.  We are very pleased with how the FIT community room was received in its first year, and are eager to make it even more useful to fellows-in-training in future ACC meetings." If you have suggestions for next year’s annual meeting, contact Amish at amishsura@yahoo.com and Abhi goyal1001@mc.duke.edu

COMING SOON FOR FIT MEMBERS!

Virtual Mentorship Program for FITs Sets Up
The ACC Virtual Mentorship Program for Fellows in Training has life and needs you. The online forum is designed to promote the professional growth of physicians in the field of cardiology and serve as a source of information for those who want to find out more about a career in cardiology.

The plan is to link physicians who are considering careers in cardiology, (medical students and residents), fellows who are in cardiology training programs and early career cardiologists with established cardiologists who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.  The goal is to match people with similar specialties or interests and provide the opportunity for them to interact.

Cardiology program directors are encouraged to sign up as mentors. The site needs approximately 40 mentors before it launches to all cardiology fellows.  Fellows in training need to encourage their program directors and other established cardiologists to sign up and share their knowledge wealth. FITs need to take advantage of the program to broaden their knowledge of options in the field and establish more role models.

FITForum Bulletin Board to Launch Soon
Very soon Fellows in Training will be able to communicate with each other about research ideas, concerns about training, job search leads, and other related issues by going to FITForum bulletin board. The innovative bulletin board provides users with the opportunity to post messages, continue discussions, upload studies, images and videos.

Developed by cardiology fellows for cardiology fellows, FITForum is a place to share news and information, compare notes, learn from each other, and stay in touch with the ACC. This project was developed to meet the needs of Fellows in Training. The content will be as strong as you make it because you will be writing it. The final launch will take place in the next few weeks.

FIT Editors Draw “Fan” Mail

Cardiology’s FIT Editors, Jamie Beckerman, M.D., and Hector Michelena, M.D., wrote about fast-tracking in their March column, and provoked lively, disparate responses from two F.A.C.C.s. See the Letters in April Cardiology. Pick up the discussion in Cardiology and feel free to send your suggestion topics to cardiologyeditor@acc.org.
