ACC.10 & i2 Summit 2010 Health Information Technology Spotlight Session
8:00 - 8:30 a.m.

Opening Keynote Address

Health IT has become more prominent then ever before in the public sphere. With the passage in February 2009 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the country gained the tools to begin a major transformation in the U.S. health care system through the creation of a secure, interoperable nationwide health information network. Leading this effort is the National Coordinator for Health IT, David Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.P., who will discuss the great possibilities -and the inherent challenges - ahead of us during the road to mass health IT adoption.

Speakers:
David Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.P., National Coordinator for Health IT

Introduction by Jack Lewin, M.D., ACC CEO

8:30 - 9:30 a.m.

Often, practices are overwhelmed by the prospect of implementing an electronic health record (EHR) in their practice and are unsure where to begin. This session provides real-world experiences of EHR implementations by cardiologists to better understand what works and what does not work in small, large and hospital-based practices.

Speakers:
Mike Mirro, M.D., F.A.C.C., Medical director, Parkview Research Center Fort Wayne Cardiology, Fort Wayne, Ind., and clinical professor of medicine, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Ind., co-chair, ACC’s Health IT Committee

Much of the future of health IT relies on interoperability and connectivity. This session will focus on the successes and failures in health information exchange, the current and future states of data interoperability standards and the role in certification for connectivity of health IT.
