Multidisciplinary
Providers
Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, clinical pharmacists, and clinical nurse specialists are a vital part of the cardiovascular workforce. The Cardiac Care Associate (CCA) level of membership within the College was established because the ACC understands the importance of quality continuing education for all CV professionals, the need for the creation of cohesive cardiovascular teams, and the leadership roles these practitioners will play in the improvement of quality care for patients despite workforce shortages and increasing demand. The ACC Workforce Task Force also recognizes this fact, and is focusing several of its efforts on increasing the utilization of multidisciplinary providers in the cardiac care setting and promoting the team-based care concept.
Shortages are also projected
for these professionals, so efforts to increase the numbers of multidisciplinary
providers in practice must move forward as well:
Projected supply, demand,
and shortages of registered nurses: 2000-2020
