What Your Chapter Is Doing

State and local ACC Chapters provide members with the opportunity to discuss local and regional concerns and participate at a leadership level in the resolution of issues that directly affect them. The environment in which our members practice is local, issues affecting quality of care and barriers to its delivery should when possible be addressed on a local level as well. With support from the ACC national office, our Chapters have been involved in many exciting initiatives. The success of the initial Guidelines Applied in Practice (GAP) project in Michigan has generated further GAP projects in the states of Michigan, Oregon, Alabama and, the most recent GAP project in Montana. A key component of the GAP project is flexibility of the project and the tools to allow for local adaptation.

In another recent initiative, the Virginia Chapter of the ACC with support from the national office is collaborating with Anthem to provide recommendations to their new Quality-In-Sights program designed to overcome existing barriers to quality by providing financial incentives for hospitals. ACC will provide expertise on defining quality cardiac care, on technical aspects of data collection and will provide performance measurement through the NCDR™. This Chapter is also establishing a statewide Quality Leadership Council of cardiologists.
