Goal
The goal of this course is to equip the cardio-oncology community with practical scientific knowledge fostering the progression of patient-centered, evidence-based, collaborative cardiovascular and cancer care for patients living with and beyond cancer.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the oncologic indications, mechanisms of action, and cardiotoxicity risk of specific therapies that comprise the pillars of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy, immune therapy, targeted therapy, and radiation.
  2. Define the evidence supporting clinical, imaging, and biomarker-guideline recommendations regarding risk stratification and monitoring strategies in cancer patients treated with potentially cardiotoxic therapies, with a focus on practical applications.
  3. Apply evidence-based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies to mitigate and actively manage the short- and long-term cardiotoxicity risk in patients living with and beyond cancer.
  4. Recognize the mechanistic and epidemiologic overlap between cancer and cardiovascular disease, going beyond the cardiotoxicity of cancer therapies to understand their broader impact on health.
  5. Describe the impact of health disparities, genomic ancestry, and social determinants of health in cardiovascular disease in patients living with and beyond cancer.
  6. Analyze strategies for patient education and communication to enhance understanding and management of cardiotoxicity risks associated with cancer therapies.
  7. Design a multi-disciplinary, interprofessional cardio-oncology care team and successful framework to advance the overall cardiovascular care of cancer patients and survivors.
  8. Evaluate the pathophysiologic basis of amyloidosis, as well as current diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Target Audience
The primary target audience is cardiologists, internists, pharmacists, nurses, trainees, and all members of the interprofessional care team who advance the clinical care of, and conduct clinical research that is relevant to, the growing population of cancer patients and survivors at risk for, or suffer from, cardiovascular disease.
