Rescissions Package Passes House Of Representatives, Stalls in Senate

On June 7, the House passed a rescissions package revoking $15.3 billion in previously enacted budget authority. The rescissions request, largely focused on recapturing unused funds, was introduced by the White House in early May. The White House released a revised package of spending cuts on June 5, with the preservation of funds to fight the Ebola virus as the only major health care-related change. On June 20, the Senate rejected discharging the measure from committee in a close 48 – 50 procedural vote. Senate leaders have until June 22 to pass the legislation with a simple majority prior to the expiration of filibuster protection.
