Third Phase of COVID-19 Provider Relief Funding Announced

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced an additional $20 billion of Provider Relief Funding will be made available in the coming weeks. This third tranche can go to providers who have previously received funds, an expanded pool of behavioral health providers, and new providers who started practicing in the first quarter of 2020 and would not have had historical documents on which to base prior distribution allocations. Applications open Oct. 5 through Nov. 6. More specifics about terms/conditions and applications should be posted soon on the main HHS Provider Relief website soon.

This relief builds on prior efforts included as part of the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund in the CARES Act and subsequent emergency funding acts. HHS states a plan to get eligible providers relief of roughly 2% of patient care revenue after accounting for any prior distributions. Anything left over will then be distributed based on lost revenues, increased expenses, and prior funding.
