Congress Passes FY 2020 Spending Stopgap Through Dec. 18
Congress has passed a one-week stopgap spending bill to keep the federal government operating through Dec. 18 at current fiscal year (FY) 2020 funding levels and giving lawmakers an extra week to negotiate a 12-bill, omnibus spending package for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. The bill now goes to President Trump for final signature.
It is expected that any pandemic stimulus package would pass as part of a government funding deal next week. A bipartisan coalition of lawmakers has released a $908 billion stimulus plan framework that includes funding for small businesses, vaccine development, the health care provider relief fund and unemployment insurance, but disagreements remain on whether to provide federal aid to state and local governments and liability protections for businesses.
