ACC-Supported VHD Research, Education Legislation Introduced in Senate
U.S. Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) on April 15 introduced the Cardiovascular Advances in Research and Opportunities Legacy Act (CAROL Act) to increase awareness and research of valvular heart disease (VHD). The bill mirrors the ACC-supported CAROL Act introduced in the House earlier this year by Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY).
The bill would authorize the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to create a grant program supporting VHD research and education, as well as support Centers for Disease Control and Prevention efforts to create education and public awareness programs regarding VHD and effective strategies for preventing sudden cardiac death.
