CMS Announces Two-Year Extension For BPCI Advanced Model

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a two-year extension for the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced (BPCI Advanced) Model. BPCI Advanced, part of the Quality Payment Program, was slated to end Dec. 31, 2023 and will now continue until Dec. 31, 2025.

As part of the extension, Medicare-enrolled providers, suppliers and Medicare Accountable Care Organizations not currently participating in BPCI Advanced will be able to apply to participate over the additional two-year period, with a “Request for Applications” expected in early 2023.

The ACC is one of five medical specialty societies identified to offer Alternate Quality Measures Sets reporting based on registry participation. NCDR measures from three registries (Chest Pain – MI Registry, CathPCI Registry and EP Device Implant Registry) are included in the “Cardiac Care” and “Cardiac Procedures” BPCI Advanced clinical episode service lines groups. Specific registry measures include:

  • Overall Defect Free Care (NQF #2377), currently reported in the Chest Pain – MI Registry
  • Discharge Medications: Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor or Angiotensin Receptor Blocker and Beta-Blockers in Eligible Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Implant Patients (Composite Measure) (NQF #0965), currently reported in the EP Device Implant Registry (formerly ICD Registry)
