ACC Represents CV Clinicians and Patients at AMA Meeting in Honolulu, HI
The Cardiovascular Section Council at the interim AMA House of Delegates meeting in Honolulu, HI.
ACC members and staff attended the interim American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates meeting from Nov. 12-15 in Honolulu, HI, and were joined on the Cardiovascular Section Council by representatives from the American Society of Echocardiology, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI), the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.
As part of their important efforts to represent cardiovascular clinicians and patients, ACC's delegates submitted a resolution on the socioeconomics of coronary calcium scoring, and co-sponsored a resolution with SCAI urging states and regions to form systems of care to improve coordination and outcomes and reduce disparities for patients with cardiac emergencies. Both resolutions passed the House of Delegates in amended form.
Some policies which were voted on and adopted include:
- Policy affirming that an institution's academic mission should not be compromised by the site's fiduciary responsibility to an external corporation or for-profit entity;
- Policy to address firearm-related deaths;
- Policy to boost equity in the resident-selection process;
- Policy to prevent harm and death from fentanyl overdoses;
- Policy to subject third-party Rx benefit administrators to PBM rules;
- Policy to make it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to compare Medicare Advantage plans on the web;
- Policy to require mental health parity in Medicare;
- Policy opposing the criminalization of pregnancy loss resulting from medically necessary care.
