Appropriate Coronation(s)
The ACC and our partners last week released our first Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for a treatment strategy for differentiating best treatment options in coronary artery disease (CAD) among optimal medical therapy, stenting, and CABG therapy. This is a huge and exciting quality development!
Our Appropriate Use Criteria for Coronary Revascularization examine 180 common clinical scenarios where coronary revascularization might be considered, and assess whether it would be appropriate, inappropriate, or uncertain based on several factors.
These AUC are another step in the direction of offering providers the support they need to deliver the very highest quality care. This release is getting a lot of attention in Congress and the D.C. policy community because it reflects what professionalism should be about -- altruism (to do what’s right for each individual patient based on science, not economics; policy based on the best expertise; and a means of self-regulation).
