Welcome to Chicago!

This post was authored by ACC President Kim Allan Williams Sr., MD, FACC, president of the ACC.

Over the next three days, the world of cardiology will descend upon my hometown of Chicago for ACC.16!

Many people were involved in making ACC.16 happen, from members, to staff, to partner societies and Chapters. I would particularly like to thank ACC.16 Chair Athena Poppas, MD, and Co-Chair Jeff Kuvin, MD, for their leadership. As a result of this collective effort, ACC.16 features an unprecedented number of opportunities for creating connections, igniting innovation and engaging in disruptive discussion around the latest in cardiovascular research.

Specifically, highlights of ACC.16 include an enhanced poster area; special intensives focused on hot topics in cardiovascular care; more than 270 companies that make up the ACC.16 Expo; opportunities to obtain simultaneous CME and MOC credit; and increased interactive activities, including simulation sessions and the popular FIT Jeopardy competition. As always, ACC.16 will also feature the best in late-breaking clinical research and provide networking opportunities for all members of the cardiovascular care team.

Chicago has played a starring role in America’s industrial history since its founding in 1830. This tenacious city has experienced the intersection of history and change countless times over the years. It has carved its own roads into the history of the United States. As our profession finds itself at its own intersection of science and change, I can’t think of a better time or place for this meeting.

I have often said that the College does not exist for its own sake – but for the sake its members.  Use the College! Take advantage of this time to create, ignite, disrupt, elevate and innovate. Chicago by its very nature sparks innovation and I hope we can all capture a bit of that spark and carry it with us.
