Biomarkers of inflammation (such as C-reactive protein), low cardiorespiratory fitness (peak oxygen consumption), and poor endothelial function (flow-mediated dilation) are all associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk and vascular mortality and other cardiovascular risk factors such as metabolic syndrome, but their interdependence has not been established in a healthy population.
