Quality Improvement for Institutions | New ACC HeartCARE Center Designation Recognizes Excellence in Cardiovascular Care
The ACC’s new overarching accreditation program — HeartCARE Center: National Distinction of Excellence — will reward hospitals and health systems that demonstrate excellence in cardiovascular care through participation in multiple ACC Accreditation and NCDR programs.
The new designation is the highest recognition hospitals can receive from the ACC. It can be achieved by meeting a set of criteria that can be realized through participation in at least two ACC Accreditation Services programs, as well as ACC’s NCDR programs and other targeted quality improvement efforts — such as ACC’s voluntary public reporting effort or Patient Navigator Program: Focus MI — that are designed to help hospitals and institutions close gaps in guideline-based care.
“Every day hospitals are demonstrating their commitment to quality cardiovascular care by meeting accreditation criteria and through their ongoing performance measurement in registry reporting,” says Phillip Levy, MD, MPH, FACC, chair of ACC’s Accreditation Management Board. “The ACC’s new HeartCARE Center: National Distinction of Excellence program is designed to shine a light on the elite group of U.S. hospitals that are going above and beyond to ensure each patient that comes through their doors has access to consistent, highest-quality cardiovascular care.”

ACC’s Accreditation Services staff will continue to engage with multidisciplinary teams at each hospital and facility to help them achieve the best possible outcomes for cardiovascular patients.
