ACC Launches Chest Pain – MI Registry, Expanding Scope of Former ACTION Registry

The ACC has announced that the name of its ACTION Registry will change to Chest Pain – MI Registry, effective June 26. The new name aligns ACC's registry and accreditation offerings to address additional patient populations. Beginning in fall 2018, the registry will fully support data requirements for ACC's Chest Pain Center Accreditation program.

With its new name, the Chest Pain – MI Registry will continue as the nation's largest quality improvement program for patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and will expand to include patients with acute coronary syndromes, including unstable angina and low-risk chest pain.

"Until now the ACTION Registry focused exclusively on STEMI/NSTEMI patients," said Michael C. Kontos, MD, FACC, chair of the registry steering committee. "The evolution of the registry, with expansion to include lower-risk chest pain patients, will assist hospitals in measuring outcomes to better manage the entire spectrum of chest pain, from low-risk emergency department patients to high-risk STEMI patients."

The registry also will help facilitate collaboration across multiple providers and specialists who manage care for these patients, including emergency department clinicians and emergency medical services providers. In addition, the registry will provide a data collection mechanism for sites that are also interested in earning Chest Pain Center Accreditation.

"The expanded scope of the registry will allow hospitals to optimize patient outcomes and reduce variations in care through risk stratification and evaluation of hospital performance in delivering guideline-recommended care and treatments," says NCDR Management Board Chair Frederick A. Masoudi, MD, MSPH, FACC.
