Major Clinical Trials From ESC Congress 2019: Surgeons' Perspectives

The European Society of Cardiology Congress 2019 (ESC Congress 2019) provided many important randomized trials in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Several of the trials spanned areas where collaboration between surgeons and cardiologists continues to grow in the form of heart teams, namely structural heart disease and coronary revascularization. No clinical trial is perfect, and interpretation of trial findings and their implications for patient management can often vary significantly. Ultimately, through the discussion of trial findings and their impact, we force ourselves to think critically about how we interpret data and ultimately better refine questions for future analyses. As such, members of the American College of Cardiology's Surgeon's Council have selected four trials from ESC Congress 2019 with relevance to surgeons and cardiologists and provide perspective on the research findings. Four articles, written by Surgeon's Council members who are leaders in their respective fields, are listed below. These articles provide unique perspectives on timely topics that will continue to rely on collaboration across specialties for success and growth.
