Teaming Up to Transform Care Delivery
"As a renewed sense of urgency for efficient and effective delivery of cardiovascular care is felt throughout our health care environment, it is imperative that we envision and implement transformational care delivery," write ACC President Cathleen Biga, MSN, FACC, and Andrea L. Price, MS, RCIS, AACC, CPHQ, in the latest JACC Leadership Page.
Biga and Price highlight six major benefits of team-based care that include comprehensive expertise, patient-centeredness, optimized resource utilization and care coordination, and more. They also outline key structures and processes necessary to support and foster a physician-led, team-based culture centered around quality improvement.

Among their recommendations: use of a dyad leadership model, setting a process for defining quality initiatives and benchmarking criteria; and carving out time to celebrate achievements.
"At a time when urgent solutions are needed, the CV team has the right people in the right roles at the right time, and it may just hold the keys to optimizing patient care and outcomes around the world," they write.
