Top Scientific Research Recognized at ACC Latin America Conference

Abstract Award winners from Cuba, Mexico and Colombia will next present their research at ACC.26 in New Orleans

The American College of Cardiology has recognized three outstanding abstract presentations as Abstract Award winners at the ACC Latin America 2025 conference on September 18-20 in Mexico City.

The conference brings together leading experts and cardiovascular clinicians from across Latin America and the Caribbean to examine emerging trends and evidence-based strategies in the prevention and management of patients with heart disease. This year’s winners were selected for their high-quality research that furthers the ACC’s mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health.

This year’s Abstract Award winners are:

  • Myocardial Contraction Fraction as a Prognostic Marker in Patients with Cardiac Amyloidosis – Carlos Peñate (National Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Cuba)
  • The Role of Left Atrial Strain in the Follow Up of Patients with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction After Adding Vericiguat to Optimal Medical Treatment – Patricia Nava-Sanchez (National Institute of Cardiology Ignacio Chavez, Mexico)
  • Sex-Based Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Follow-Up in Long COVID at 6 and 12 Months – Lev Bladimir Ramirez (Universidad de Sabana, Colombia)

Abstract Award winners receive complimentary registration and travel to the ACC’s Annual Scientific Session, taking place March 28-30, 2026 in New Orleans, where they will be able to present their winning abstract and be published in an ACC.26 JACC supplement.
