WASHINGTON (Jan 12, 2026) -

The American College of Cardiology announced today the appointment of Dinesh Kalra, MD, FACC, as the new editor-in-chief of JACC: Advances. Kalra brings to the journal a distinguished career in multimodality cardiac imaging, preventive cardiology and lipidology, along with a commitment to innovation, inclusivity and scientific excellence.

JACC: Advances is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research, reviews and expert perspectives across all areas of cardiovascular medicine, including emerging fields. The journal features clinical and experimental studies with clear clinical relevance, as well as epidemiological and health policy research aimed at advancing cardiovascular health worldwide.

As editor-in-chief, Kalra said he aims to broaden the journal’s scientific scope and global reach while maintaining the editorial rigor that defines the JACC family of journals.

“I am honored to take on this role and help shape the future of cardiovascular scientific discovery,” Kalra said. “My vision is for JACC: Advances to serve as a high-quality home for innovative research—from early-phase, first-in-human studies and novel devices to artificial intelligence and digital health applications. We will actively engage early-career investigators, international authors and voices across all disciplines to advance cardiovascular health globally.”

Kalra’s plans for the journal include expanding its focus to emerging areas such as cardiometabolic disease, precision medicine, population and implementation science, wearable technologies and data science, while emphasizing constructive peer review and mentorship. He also aims to enhance digital engagement and adopt new technologies alongside the changing landscape of scientific publishing to improve efficiency, transparency and the author experience.

Kalra currently serves as chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and professor of medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. In addition, Kalra serves as vice chair for quality in the Department of Medicine and holds the endowed position of Jewish Hospital Cardiovascular Innovation Institute Scientific Director Chair in Medicine.

At UofL Health, Kalra is on the University Medical Center Board of Directors, is chair of the Quality Assurance Committee for Cardiology, and serves as a co-director of the Heart Board for the Cardiovascular Service Line at University of Louisville Hospital.

An international expert in cardiac imaging and preventive cardiology, Kalra is board-certified in cardiology, echocardiography, CT, CMR, lipidology and nuclear cardiology. He is active in numerous professional societies, including the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and the National Lipid Association. Kalra was awarded the ACC’s Distinguished Educator Award in 2025 for his exemplary teaching and mentoring and the 2025 Educational Achievement Award by the Kentucky Medical Association.
