Hosted by the ACC's LGBTQ+ Work Group, this interactive webinar explores the unique cardiovascular health needs of LGBTQIA+ populations and the clinician's role in fostering inclusive care environments. Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality across these communities, yet tailored care is still underemphasized in cardiology training. Through real world cases, this session aims to equip fellows, early career faculty and CV care team members with essential knowledge, clinical frameworks and communication strategies to deliver inclusive, evidence informed care.
Key Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
- Introduce key cardiovascular risks across LGBTQIA+ identities and related care considerations
- Strengthen communication skills by identifying common challenges in patient interactions
- Create affirming CV care environments through inclusive practices and team approaches
- Discuss hormone therapy, psychosocial stressors and structural barriers that shape CV care
- Offer practical strategies for the CV care team and staff to advocate for inclusive care within their institutions
