Scam Alert: Fraudulent Letters and Calls Impersonating DEA Personnel
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is warning medical professionals of fraudulent letters and calls where scammers pose as DEA personnel and falsely claim individuals are under investigation to obtain personal or sensitive information.
Of note, the DEA does not call registrants regarding investigations. DEA personnel will only notify individuals of a legitimate investigation or legal action either in person or by official letter.
If someone claiming to be from the DEA tells you that you are under investigation, report the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Those who have already fallen victim to the scam can visit IdentityTheft.gov for next steps on how to protect your identify and other personal information.
