Special JACC Issue Devoted to Women’s CV Health

From an early age, women face unique and often underrecognized cardiovascular risks. The latest issue of JACC highlights the continued evolution of sex-informed cardiovascular care and raises important questions about age, treatment patterns and cardiovascular risk in women.

"The next phase of progress asks something more demanding than inclusion alone. It asks whether the systems through which evidence is generated, clinicians are trained, and careers are built can be designed to serve women as fully and routinely as men," writes JACC Editor-In-Chief Harlan M. Krumholz, MD, SM FACC, in the issue's Editor's Page, which focuses on how to bring women's cardiovascular health to the forefront and fully integrate women's health into cardiovascular science.

This issue features research exploring how menopausal status influences vascular responses to chemotherapy, as well as how the use of a microaxial flow pump affects outcomes in women. It also includes a State‑of‑the‑Art Review highlighting key gaps in our understanding of sex differences in dilated cardiomyopathy, along with Viewpoints on empowering female physicians and improving education and training to advance women's cardiovascular health. Additionally, a special Heartbeats piece authored by Sarah D. R. Krumholz, MS, RD, reflects on the challenges of balancing motherhood and a career in medicine.
