A statement from American College of Cardiology President Kim Allan Williams Sr., M.D., FACC, in support of the new, bipartisan Senate caucus dedicated to supporting the National Institutes of Health, which formally launched today:

"The Senate NIH Caucus addresses the critical need to find a bipartisan strategy for increased and sustained funding for the National Institutes of Health. Funding for groundbreaking research in the United States - which has helped dramatically advance treatments for everything from heart disease to cancer - has stagnated over the last decade," said American College of Cardiology President Kim Allan Williams Sr., M.D., FACC.

"Senators Durbin and Graham have shown bipartisan leadership in supporting this essential agency as the medical community seeks cures for devastating illnesses and works to improve the nation's long-term health. The ACC looks forward to working with, and expanding, the caucus."
