Target Audience

This program is intended for all professionals involved in the field of echocardiography.

Learner Objectives
Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the physics and instrumentation necessary for conducting echocardiography.
  • Demonstrate the application of Doppler principles to assessing hemodynamics
  • Correlate cardiac gross pathology with echocardiographic images.
  • Explain when to use echo in diagnosing and treating patients with CAD, valvular heart disease, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease, heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction.
  • Identify a wide range of echocardiographic images, including those of “normal” patients and those with cardiac pathology.
  • Identify echocardiographic features of unpalliated and palliated congenital heart abnormalities and their late complications.
  • Evaluate cardiac chamber size, left ventricular systolic and diastolic function and right ventricular systolic function.
  • Interpret transesophageal images and distinguish attributes and limitations versus transthoracic echocardiography.
  • Diagnose and differentiate cardiac masses.
  • Diagnose and distinguish diseases of the aorta.
  • Relate when 3D echo is the most appropriate diagnostic tool to use in evaluating their patients.
  • Describe when strain echo is the most appropriate diagnostic tool to use in evaluating their patients.
  • Cite when contrast echo is the most appropriate diagnostic tool to use in evaluating their patients.
