Program Overview and Objectives

Prepare yourself for the ABIM Board exams with a program designed to meet your needs. Faculty members recognized for their teaching skills will orient their lectures to the exams. They’ll offer insights on thinking through Board questions and preparing for the exam.

Each session will include presentation and discussion of several case management studies with attendee participation. Attendees will be able to attend basic ECG and Echo review sessions, and take simulated Board examinations for general cardiology, EP and ECG.  Consider bringing ECG calipers and calculators to the study sessions.

Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:

  • interpret ECGs and echo studies
  • interpret nuclear, CT and MR images
  • understand coronary angiographic findings and cath lab hemodynamics
  • diagnose and treat arrhythmias
  • understand the indications for pacing, ICDs
  • apply evidence-based management strategies for the treatment of ACS, valvular heart disease, hypertension and heart failure
  • demonstrate an understanding of basic cardiovascular pharmacology
  • demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of CAD risk stratification and prevention
  • recognize the approach to patients with venous thromboembolic disease, pulmonary hypertension, pericardial disease, aortic and peripheral arterial disease
  • review preparation materials for taking the ABIM Cardiovascular Board Exam for certification

ACCF Interactive Study Session for Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
Attendees seeking ABIM recertification for CV disease are invited to register separately for the optional six-hour MOC course on Saturday, September 9, 2006.  Offered in collaboration with the ABIM, participants will earn 20 knowledge based points required for ABIM recertification.
