TRAPID-AMI: 1h-Algorithm in MI Diagnosis Using hs-cTnT

Use of a high-sensitivity cardiac Troponin T (hs-cTnT) 1h-algorithm is a safe and effective approach to substantially reduce time to diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI) in approximately 75 percent of acute chest pain patients, according to new research presented Aug. 30 as part of ESC Congress 2014.

Investigators applied the hs-cTnT 1h-algorithm on 1,282 patients with chest pain and found that it performed well for early rule-out as well as rule-in of acute MI, suggesting its use in conjunction with all other clinical information, including ECG, could improve early MI diagnosis moving forward.

Investigators did note some limitations to the study, including the fact that physicians were blinded to the investigational hs-cTnT results and patients were not managed based on these results. They also suggested that future research is needed on the algorithm’s performance in patients on dialysis.
