Kentucky Pushes for Smoke-Free Legislation

On Feb. 11, members of the Kentucky Chapter of the ACC advocated for comprehensive smoke-free legislation (H.B. 145) at the Kentucky General Assembly. If passed, this bill will prohibit smoking in all indoor public places and workplaces. The Kentucky Chapter joined a broad coalition in Frankfort that included volunteers from a number of organizations such as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association and the American Public Health Association. Smoke-free legislation has been introduced for several years but this might be the best opportunity for passage to date. The House Health and Welfare Committee recently voted in favor of the bill, which is a positive sign, as the bill did not make it out of committee last year.
