President: Kim Allan Williams, Sr., MD, FACC

Williams received his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, followed by medical school at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Emory University, and overlapping fellowships in cardiology, clinical pharmacology, and nuclear medicine at the University of Chicago. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular computed tomography. He served as professor of medicine and radiology and director of nuclear cardiology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine from 1986 to 2010, when he then became the Dorothy Susan Timmis Endowed Professor and chair of the division of cardiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. In 2013, Williams assumed the position of James B. Herrick Professor and chief of the division of cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Williams has served on numerous committees and boards at the national level, including the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association (AMA), the Certifying Board of Nuclear Cardiology, the Certifying Board of Cardiac Computed Tomography, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC). He served as president of ASNC from 2004 to 2005 and as chair of the Board of ABC from 2008 to 2010. He also served on the Cardiovascular Disease Examination Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine from 2006 to 2012. Prior to becoming president of the ACC, Williams served as chair to the following groups at ACC: the Cardiac Imaging Committee, the Cardiovascular Imaging Collaborative, the Coalition of Cardiovascular Organizations and the Cardiac Imaging Council. He has also been an ACC delegate to the AMA since 2000.

President-Elect: Richard A. Chazal, MD, FACC

Since 1983, Chazal has practiced clinical cardiology in Fort Myers, FL, with expertise in echocardiography, diagnostic catheterization and coronary computerized tomography angiography. He has remained an active participant in multiple clinical trials. In 2010, his single specialty cardiology group integrated with Lee Memorial Health Systems, where he is lead cardiologist for the Heart Group, and the medical director of the Heart and Vascular Institute, helping direct the cardiovascular service line for a four-hospital system and directing quality improvement. Chazal received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and medical degree from the University of South Florida, followed by a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology at Indiana University. Nationally, Chazal has served as a member and as chair of over fifty committees and workgroups for the ACC. He is the past president and past governor of the Florida Chapter. He has served as chair of the ACC Board of Governors and as Treasurer/Chair of Budget and Finance. In these capacities, Chazal has spent eight years on the ACC Board of Trustees, seven of which were on the Executive Committee.

Vice President: Mary Norine Walsh, MD, FACC

Walsh earned both her BA and MD from the University of Minnesota. She completed her internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, and her cardiology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine. She served as an assistant professor of medicine in the division of cardiology, as well as an assistant professor of radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1990 to 1992. Walsh joined what is now St. Vincent Medical Group in Indianapolis, IN, in 1992. She is the medical director of the Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Programs and director of nuclear cardiology at St. Vincent Heart Center, as well as clinical associate professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. She has been active in the ACC, both locally and nationally. She has served as president of the Indiana Chapter, and has served on and chaired multiple committees. She is actively involved in clinical research in heart failure, nuclear cardiology and systems approaches for quality initiatives in the practice setting. She has been elected by her peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America annually since 2005.

Secretary and Board of Governors Chair: Robert “Bob” Shor, MD, FACC

Shor has been practicing cardiology since 1989 and is currently a partner at Virginia Heart, which serves much of Northern Virginia. Shor has a special interest in primary and secondary prevention, and risk factor modification, in addition to general and invasive cardiology. He has been involved in multiple quality initiatives, both at the practice, local and state level. In addition to running an active clinical practice, Shor has participated in multiple clinical trials and served on multiple hospital committees, as well as the board of his practice, where he serves as vice president. Shor has been actively involved in the Virginia Chapter of the ACC for many years, first as a councilman, and then for several years as treasurer. He has also been chair of the Virginia Chapter’s Advocacy Committee, representing the ACC on the Hill and at congressional events, advancing the concerns of cardiologists. Shor has also previously represented the ACC on the National Committee for Quality Assurance Medical Advisory Board, the Clinical Practice Committee and at the Medical Society of Virginia legislative meetings. He has been involved in several ACC Committees and task forces, and has served on writing committees. More recently, Shor has served as the president of the Virginia Chapter of the ACC and on the Board of Governors for the ACC from 2012 to 2015.

Treasurer: Robert Guyton, MD, FACC

Guyton is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in general surgery and a residency in cardiothoracic surgery, both at Massachusetts General Hospital, with an additional fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. Since 1990, Guyton has been the chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine and the director of the thoracic surgery residency program. He is the Charles Ross Hatcher, Jr. Professor of Surgery. Guyton was a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for 10 years, serving as treasurer from 1996 to 2002 and president from 2003 to 2004. Guyton is the founder of the Cardiothoracic Research Laboratory of the Carlyle Fraser Heart Center at Emory/Crawford Long Hospital. With regard to the ACC, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees, the Surgeon’s Council and the Board of Finance. Guyton was the co-chairman of the ACC/American Heart Association (AHA) Committee on Guidelines for Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, originally published in 1999 and updated in October 2004. He served on the writing committee for the 2012 Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Guidelines and the 2014 Valvular Heart Disease Guidelines. From 2008 through 2013, he was a member of the ACC/AHA Workforce on Practice Guidelines. Guyton has been recognized for his teaching as a winner of the Socrates Award for Commitment to Resident Education and Mentoring by the Thoracic Surgery Residents Association in 2009, and the Surgery Mentoring Award from the Council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia of the AHA in 2012.
