Health Affairs Committee Member Publishes Book on New Health Care System

Gilead I. Lancaster, MD, FACC, a member of ACC’s Health Affairs Committee, recently published EMBRACE: A Revolutionary New Healthcare System for the Twenty-First Century, a book that details the Expanding Medical and Behavioral Resources with Access to Care for Everyone (EMBRACE) proposal that was first published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2009. It was developed by health care professionals – including Harlan Krumholz, MD, SM, FACC – with the aim of replacing the current health care system with one that can seamlessly integrate evidence-based medical guidelines, and provide effective and efficient care to patients. The book begins with a general description of the EMBRACE proposal, and each subsequent chapter describes how it would affect specific groups, including patients, health care professionals, hospitals, businesses, private health insurance companies, government and public health.
