ACC Submits Comments on CMS Direct Provider Contracting Model

In late April, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a request for information on a potential direct provider contracting model from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. CMS is considering a model in which the agency would directly contract with Medicare providers, such as physician group practices, that would take accountability for the cost and quality of care for a defined beneficiary population.

On May 24, the ACC responded to the request for information with comments focused on the role of specialist clinicians and interaction with Accountable Care Organizations. CMS is not required to publicly post the comments received, however, the agency may publish a summary.
