House Committee Advances ACC Legislative Conference Priority

The House Energy and Commerce Committee this week approved the Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act, which was introduced by Energy and Commerce Chair Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), who highlighted ACC's advocacy efforts on this legislation during a health subcommittee markup.

The bill would increase the federal purchasing age of tobacco products to 21 years old, prohibit all flavored tobacco products, prohibit online sales of e-cigarettes, and ban flavored e-cigarettes and menthol cigarettes. The ACC Advocacy team continues to work with members of Congress and other stakeholders as the legislation moves to the floor for a vote.

This development comes days after ACC's Legislative Conference, where over 450 ACC members advocated for the bill during the annual Hill Day.
