Candice Silversides, MD

Candice Silversides, MD, has been announced as the inaugural editor-in-chief of ACC's newest journal, JACC: Advances. The journal will publish original research and review articles with a particular focus on new and emerging subspecialities in the cardiology field including congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiology, critical care cardiology, geriatric cardiology, cardio-obstetrics, and cerebrovascular disease, among others. JACC: Advances adds to the growing Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) family of journals, which now includes 10 premier, peer-reviewed publications.

"I am very honored to serve as the first editor-in-chief of JACC: Advances," Silversides said. "As the field of cardiology continues to grow, new subspecialities have developed and it is the perfect time to create a new journal that will publish original manuscripts dedicated to these evolving fields of cardiology. I look forward to working with the editorial board members of JACC: Advances in our shared commitment to help improve cardiovascular care for current and future generations."

Silversides is a professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and chair in Pregnancy and Heart Disease at the Miles Nadal Heart Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she leads the Obstetric Medicine program and is director of the Cardio-Obstetric clinic. She also works at the Peter Munk Cardiac Center, specializing in adult congenital heart disease and echocardiography and is vice president of the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Network. Silversides' research interests include pregnancy and heart disease and adult congenital heart disease. She has contributed to many international practice guidelines and consensus statements, including serving as chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society's guidelines on the management of adults with congenital heart disease.

JACC: Advances – an online, open-access journal – will aspire to be the leading publication for new and emerging areas in the cardiovascular field.
