ACC President Comments on Senate Finance Committee Roundtable on Medicare Physician Payments

Washington, DC – American College of Cardiology (ACC) President, William Zoghbi, MD, FACC, made the following statement after today’s Senate Finance Committee Roundtable on Medicare Physician Payments:
“The American College of Cardiology commends Senator Baucus and the Finance Committee for working with the ACC to find a solution to the Sustainable Growth Rate,” said ACC President William Zoghbi, MD, FACC. “By working together we can identify the best ways to deliver high quality care and better outcomes with greater efficiency and less cost. The ACC has tools in place that encourage evidence-based care and that support a more workable payment system. Evidence-based guidelines and patient data registries can be the basis for a payment system that reduces costs by measuring and rewarding quality over volume.”
“This morning, Dr. Doug Weaver provided examples of real programs that are making a difference in patient care. These programs support evidence-based care by providing feedback to physicians about their performance and by allowing the patient and physician to work together to make appropriate decisions. The ACC is honored to be one of only five groups invited to testify this morning.”
