SAN DIEGO (Mar 12, 2015) -

The American College of Cardiology’s CardioSmart Initiative is hosting a Patient Engagement Pavilion at the 64th Annual Scientific Session in San Diego to showcase the programs, tools, and resources the College has available to address the needs of both cardiovascular patients and the cardiovascular care team in providing more patient-centered care.

Health care overall is shifting to a more patient-centered approach as patients are becoming more engaged in their own care. Through CardioSmart, the ACC recognizes that physicians need the right tools to better communicate and work with their patients in making treatment and care decisions.

The pavilion, which is sponsored in part by Sanofi Regeneron, was modeled after the Patient Advocacy Connection Booth pioneered by the Sanofi Regeneron Alliance at ACC.14.  In addition to showcasing numerous patient advocacy organizations, the pavilion will house information on the ACC’s quality initiatives, including SMARTCare, the Patient Navigator Program and Shared Decision Making Tools. Representatives and patient advocates from organizations such as the Association of Black Cardiologists, Mended Hearts and StopAFib.org will be in the pavilion to interact directly with health care professionals, helping to facilitate their dialogue and understanding.

The schedule of events in the pavilion will include interactive exhibits, case presentations and question and answer sessions where participants will present how their resources empower patients, clinicians, and caregivers to work together to achieve measurable improvements in cardiovascular outcomes, reduction in costs of providing care and improved patient satisfaction.

The Patient Engagement Pavilion is located in Booth 3449 in the Expo Hall.
