Recognition and Management of ACS in the Pregnant Patient: SCAD and Beyond
Webinar Overview
Learn how to recognize and manage acute coronary syndromes (ACS) in pregnancy, from spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) to plaque rupture, with a multidisciplinary cardio-obstetrics and interventional approach.
ACS during pregnancy and postpartum present unique diagnostic and management challenges. Hosted by ACC's Reproductive Health and Cardio-Obstetrics and Interventional Cardiology Member Sections, this webinar reviews the major causes of pregnancy-associated ACS including SCAD, coronary thrombosis and plaque rupture, and highlights how pregnancy affects electrocardiogram, biomarker and imaging interpretation. Experts will provide evidence-based strategies that balance maternal benefit with fetal safety and emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary cardio-obstetrics team in acute care, delivery planning and postpartum follow-up. Interventional considerations will also be discussed.
Key Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
- Understand risk factors and timing of ACS in pregnancy and postpartum.
- Recognize major causes including SCAD, coronary thrombosis and plaque rupture.
- Interpret diagnostic tests considering pregnancy-related changes.
- Apply safe medical and interventional strategies.
- Integrate multidisciplinary care for optimal maternal and fetal outcomes.
