Cardiology Cases For Medical Students: Common Encounters on Clinical Rotations
Webinar Overview
Join an interactive, case-based webinar designed to help medical students confidently approach common cardiovascular presentations encountered during clinical rotations.
Medical students frequently encounter cardiovascular complaints during internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine and other clinical rotations, yet may have limited experience translating foundational cardiovascular knowledge into practical patient evaluation and management.
This interactive webinar, hosted by ACC's Medical Students Work Group, will guide medical students through common cardiology cases using a stepwise, case-based approach. Participants will work through clinical presentations, develop differential diagnoses, select appropriate diagnostic studies, interpret basic electrocardiogram (ECG) and other cardiovascular findings, and discuss initial management and indications for escalation of care. Faculty cardiologists, fellows and/or senior residents will facilitate the cases while providing practical clinical pearls and highlighting what medical students should recognize and be prepared to discuss on rotations. Tentative cases may include acute chest pain/acute coronary syndrome, atrial fibrillation, acute decompensated heart failure, syncope, valvular heart disease and hypertension.
Key Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize the clinical presentation and key diagnostic findings of common cardiovascular conditions encountered during clinical rotations.
- Develop appropriate initial differential diagnoses and diagnostic workups for common cardiac complaints using a case-based approach.
- Interpret basic ECG findings and other commonly encountered cardiac investigations within the context of patient cases.
- Identify appropriate initial management strategies and recognize when escalation of care or cardiology consultation is warranted.
