Women remain underrepresented in cardiovascular medicine, particularly within procedural and traditionally male-dominated subspecialties. Medical students and trainees considering a career in cardiology may encounter barriers including limited access to mentorship and female role models, concerns regarding work-life integration, uncertainty about navigating the cardiology training pathway, and questions about building a successful and fulfilling career within the field.
This webinar, hosted by ACC's Women in Cardiology Member Section and the Medical Students Work Group, will bring together a panel of women cardiologists representing diverse subspecialties and career experiences for an interactive discussion designed specifically for medical students and trainees. Panelists will share their individual paths into cardiology, lessons learned throughout medical training and career development, challenges they have encountered, and strategies that have helped them navigate those challenges. The moderated discussion will address topics including choosing cardiology and a subspecialty, mentorship and sponsorship, navigating training, work-life integration, leadership, networking and opportunities for women within cardiovascular medicine. The session will conclude with an audience Q&A, allowing participants to seek practical advice directly from the panelists.
