Viewpoint Highlights Growth of ASCs and Potential to Improve Care Delivery, Patient Outcomes
A viewpoint published in JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology highlights the rapid growth of ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) in cardiac electrophysiology and their potential to expand access to care while improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. In order to recognize this potential, however, the authors underscore the importance of strategic patient and procedure selection, appropriate safety standards, streamlined workflows, and established hospital transfer agreements. They also emphasize the need for a dedicated electrophysiology ASC registry, overseen by professional medical societies, to track patient selection, procedural outcomes, and quality metrics as care increasingly shifts to ASCs. Stay tuned for more information on ACC’s plans to expand the ASC Registry Module to include an AFib Ablation pathway next year – further enhancing the ability to monitor outcomes and support quality improvement in this evolving care setting.
