ACC to Become Co-Sponsor of TCT in 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 23, 2010 – The Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) jointly announced today an educational collaboration that formalizes and expands the existing relationship between the two organizations.
 

Beginning in 2011, ACC will become an official co-sponsor of Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), the annual medical and scientific symposium of CRF, which will become known as “Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) In Partnership with ACC.” CRF and ACC have had an existing partnership agreement since 2008, whereby CRF helps coordinate the interventional content at the Innovations in Interventions (i2) Summit at ACC’s Annual Scientific Sessions meeting. The enhanced partnership will involve sharing of content and distribution of educational materials. In addition, co-sponsorship of Continuing Medical Education (CME) awarded for meeting attendance and participation will be explored.

The two organizations will form a physician-led “Collaborative Council” comprised of senior physician leaders from both organizations. The Council will meet regularly to review progress towards established objectives and to set the strategic direction of the affiliation. Further national and international educational program collaborations and scientific efforts will be explored jointly. ACC and CRF staff will also meet regularly to share best practices, consider joint procurement of vendors to provide services and products on behalf of the collaboration, consider reciprocal exposition space at annual meetings, and explore collaboration around industry training programs.

“We believe the entire cardiology community – interventionalists, surgeons, clinicians, researchers, nurses and technicians – will benefit by an enhanced level of cooperation between the ACC and CRF,” said Gregg W. Stone, MD, Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Director of Cardiovascular Research and Education at the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and Co-Director of the Medical Research and Education Division at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. “It is our hope that providing leading edge medical education on a year-round basis will help appropriately translate evidence-based science into clinical practice.”
