WASHINGTON, DC (September 20, 2012) – The American College of Cardiology (ACC) today was honored by the Washington Business Journal as one of Greater Washington’s healthiest employers for 2012. The College ranked eighth place in the category honoring workplaces with 250-500 employees. 

“Our commitment to health extends to employees of the ACC and to the greater community,” said ACC President Dr. William Zoghbi. “We are proud to offer programs to our employees that reflect the ACC’s mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health.”

The ACC Wellness Program, Ready, Set, Go: Taking Care of You emphasizes wellness education, lifestyle modification, and employee engagement. Health and wellness benefits offered by the College include on-site education sessions and health screenings, and the Wellness Incentive Plan that includes staff fitness challenges, health and nutrition programs, text messages, and activity participation. Employees also have access to an on-site fitness center and fitness classes including yoga, boot camp, and walking, running and bike teams. Annual events include Health and Fitness Day, Wellness and Benefits Fair, and National Heart Month activities. 

The Greater Washington’s Healthiest Employer Awards honor workplaces offering initiatives and policies promoting the health and wellness of their employees. Fifty Washington area employers were selected.
